Top NCAA Basketball Teams Against the Spread
While the NFL prepares for its wildcard weekend, the NBA continues its season and college football edges closer to its Monday night championship game, college basketball continues to draw the interest of sports bettors.
A recent game between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Kentucky Wildcats drew a handle that was reminiscent of an NFL game.
As the season continues into 2017, conference schedules will start soon and that means it is a good time to take a look at a few of the top teams against the spread (ATS) in the nation thus far.
Fresno State is 9-5 straight up and an impressive 8-1 ATS. Paul Watson is leading the team in scoring. Fresno State has covered each game in which it was the underdog this season and has covered the number in 8 straight games.
The Baylor Bears are currently 13-0 SU and 7-1 ATS. The only game the Bears did not cover this season is one in which they were a huge favorite and since then have covered 7 straight.
Baylor not only shots strongly from the outside with three players shooting over 40% from the third point line, but has great size in the front court with Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. at 7-foot and Johnathan Motley at 6-foot-10.
Fairfield might not be a household name when it comes to college basketball but the Stags are 6-5 SU and an impressive 6-1 ATS.
The Stags have played well on the road as underdogs this season when it comes to covering the number.
Gonzaga on the season is 14-0 SU and 9-2 ATS. This is the best offensive team of this group of four. The Bulldogs are deep and during blowout wins, the bench plays and that sometimes allows for a backdoor cover.
Thus far, that has not happened with this season’s team as even the 10th, 11th and 12th men are talented.
On five occasions, Gonzaga has been 14.5-point chalk or higher and has covered each time.
